Laura was raised in Livingston, Montana. She moved away to attend college and graduate school studying biology, chemistry, and immunology. Eventually she felt restricted by the intense hours and lack of creativity in her life and took a break to do something more creative. She started exploring artwork and moved home, opening The Frame Garden in 1998. She has worked in several media including watercolor, collage, hand carved wooden boxes, and basket making before landing on making silver and stone jewelry.
“I moved to New Zealand for four years and while there I lived near the beach and became enamored with small pebbles, their shape, the smoothness, the subtlety of color. They were raw and direct from nature, smoothed over time by sand and water. They weren’t highly polished, or cut, or showy. I started to play, juxtaposing them with silver and pattern, things of the manmade world. Natural forms and geometrics. Those are the materials and concepts I continue to work with today, the raw natural stones from various locations combined with fine silver that I add texture and shape to.” Vertical Divider
