Susan has been creating custom glass for churches, professional offices, schools and private homes for the past 45 years. She is a member of The Stained Glass Association of America and The Michigan Glass Guild.
She started at a young age taking classes at the Kalamazoo Art Center, now The Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, in Kalamazoo, MI. She continued there attending classes through high school. Then she advanced to formal training in Chicago at The American Academy of Art. Susan worked in the Advertising Industry throughout her career, from her first job as a Fashion Illustrator’s apprentice in Chicago to a Graphic Designer/Art Director in cities like Grand Rapids, St. Joseph and Kalamazoo, MI until her retirement in 2008. Stained Glass inspired Susan from her high school days as a hobby. But it was not until the late 80’s that she was able to develop it into a second career. Some installations of her Michigan work can be viewed at the First Congregational Church in Kalamazoo, The Richland Community Church in Richland, MI, St Jude’s Parish and the United Methodist Church both in Gobles, MI. Plus The Gobles Elementary School and The Timber Ridge Ski Area also in the Gobles area, to name a few. In 2004 her youngest son enrolled in Montana State University in Bozeman. Bringing the family west over these past 20 years has made a lasting impression on the whole family. It’s created a love for the beautiful mountain countryside, the wild animals and its people. This is reflected in both her husband Colin’s wildlife oil paintings and in her stained glass work. In 2019 she and her husband moved to Belgrade, MT. Over these years her work has been devoted to Native American themes. In Montana she first exhibited with The Sundog Gallery in Bozeman, then with The Western Heritage Association in Great Falls, also with The Heart of the West Group in Bozeman, MT. For the last six years she has been exhibiting at The Frame Garden Gallery in Livingston, MT. She also participated in 2021, in the First Sweet Pea Winter Exhibit in February and again in 2002.
